Practicum – Week 10

This week was a tough one at The Globe. We don’t have many staff writers at the moment, and this issue was almost entirely written by editors on staff.

I wrote/contributed to three articles on Monday. My first article was written from covering an event hosted by Future Educators of America (FEA) called “Spread the Word to End the Word,” a campaign to end the use of the “r-word.” The article reached 841 words with four primary sources and one secondary source.

I also wrote an editorial piece responding to the Pittsburgh City Paper’s retraction of an article last week that featured a women wearing a T-shirt of a band known for its hateful, white supremacist lyrics. Though the mistake was a bad one, I applauded the editor’s swift and sincere response.

I also contributed to The Globe’s Point editorial, where we spoke to Point Park about the importance of staying engaged throughout the rest of the semester.

I also copy-edited articles and looked through layout for all sections Monday night, and again Tuesday morning.
