It was a good Monday at The Globe. By 8:00 p.m., Emily and I were copy editing every section except News. I had an initial story for News fall through, so I picked up writing profiles for two United Student Government presidential candidates and one vice presidential candidate instead.
Following my interviews I covered my first spot news event – a bank robbery on sixth avenue. I noticed a slew of police vehicles rushing toward Smithfield Street, blocking traffic, so I rushed after them.
I was able to snap a few photos of the suspect being apprehended, searched for weapons and placed in the police car. One of my photos is running on the second page of our print edition.
I conducted six interviews and wrote three profile briefs, along with a long cutline for my photo – a very busy day indeed.
We left the office around midnight and were back again Tuesday morning to give the issue one more good look before sending it off to the printers.
